Mercury-Free
Dentistry
Dr. Medlock has been concerned about the Mercury
Amalgam issue for seventeen years. The word "silver" amalgam is a misnomer. Amalgam is 50% mercury
and should be called "mercury amalgam". Mercury vapor outgases
from the mercury amalgam for the entire life of the restoration.
Mercury vapor is the most toxic from of mercury and mercury is the
most toxic, non-radio active metal known to man. There has never
been shown to be a safe level of mercury vapor, No observable
effect level (NOEL). For those reasons, the American Dental
Association arguments that amalgam is safe is simply ludicrous.
For these reasons, Dr. Medlock has refused to use amalgam for the last
seventeen years and states, "Amalgam should be banned from
dentistry." The use of mercury has been banned from all other
aspects of medicine.
Because
amalgam is extremely hazardous during the removal process, Dr.
Medlock follows the I.A.O.M.T. guidelines for safe removal. Dr.
Medlock feels that utilizing 4 filter systems in each opertory
creates one of the most well equipped offices for dealing with Hg
amalgam removal.

The official standing of the American Dental
Association (ADA) is that "silver" fillings are safe,
stating there is no proven connection with adverse health
complaints. However Mercury forms a large number of organic and inorganic
compounds. Mercury vapor and almost all of these compounds are
highly toxic. Less hazardous substitutes should be used wherever
possible.
Over 14,000 papers world-wide have been published
which suggest that mercury is a toxic material and that it should
not be used in fillings.

Patient Protection During Removal of Mercury Fillings
Patient protection is of the utmost concern during
removal of mercury fillings - especially for the mercury toxic
patient and the aim of this procedure is to minimize any
additional exposure of the patient, the dentist and other staff to
mercury.
In the removal and replacement of mercury fillings
we follow protocols which are recommended by IAOMT (International
Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology) . These protocols
include:
