Full
Mouth Reconstruction

Patients sometimes require complete
mouth restoration. There are numerous indications for this level
of care, including patients with TMJ problems, head and neck pain,
a mouth full of old defective restorations, and a desire for
cosmetics.
At the initial appointment,
the patient is thoroughly examined and records are taken,
including radiographs, neuromuscular scans, photographs and bite
registrations.
After the laboratory has completed
the full mouth wax-up and provided Dr. Medlock with all measurements
and bites, the patient is scheduled for 2 appointments three weeks
apart. Each appointment is for the entire day. At each of the 2
appointments, the patient will be given oral sedation. This allows
the patient to enter a relaxed twilight state for most of the
visit. There are several breaks taken during the visit, and midway
there is a nutrition " Lunch" break.
At the first of these 2 visits, all
teeth are prepared, impressions are taken, and the patient leaves
the office, usually around mid afternoon, with beautiful
sculpted temporaries that are remarkably similar to the way the
finished case will look.
The patient returns in 3 weeks for
the second visit, and again under oral sedation all the crowns and
bridges are permanently seated.
There are 3 short follow-up visits
after the seating appointment in order to refine the bite.
